Project management is not just documented Process, it is more of bringing out the hidden potential of the resources. Companies do not need Technical Managers, but need good Man managers with technology background.

At the outset, I would say that this is an original article. However, I am appalled that even practicing Project managers play too much upon words like "Process Improvements", "Goal setting and Measurements". These words have become compulsory in any paper on Software Engineering, irrespective of whether the author is personally satisfied with what HE/She wants to convey.

Process is excellent when you deal with repetitive works from Assembly line, manufacturing or when you deal with unskilled workers. Software Professionals, are educated and creative workers and they need personal touch to extract the best out of them. Leave the processes, Process Improvements and Goal settings for those who present papers in seminars/ workshops for which me and you will pay, attend, and doze as we can not comprehend half of the statistics, graphs and diagrams. We clap the most, when we understand the least.

Project Management (in particular project Monitoring and chasing the work progress) is more of leadership and Team Management activity. Process is good, for procurement, contract Management and resource scheduling ( other than Human Resources).
