Good stuff here, although nothing I haven't read anywhere else. My problem is I have applied all the advice given in the different articles I have read and despite being told by many colleague that I am very good at communicating, organising, influencing etc.. my company STILL won't train me to be a PM (I'm currently a DBA). Look somewhere will you say? Believe me I have done for the past 6 months or so, got my CV on jobsite. The bottom line is: I have no experience of managing even 1 small project. And no one will give you a job even as an assistant or junior PM without this. I very nearly got a job with a well known telecom company recently, they seemed willing to help me starting in the business but after the 2nd interview and 8 weeks waiting I was told I didn't have... enough experience! It's Catch 22. All the PMs I know in my company tell me that they started in their job 'by accident'. It's not possible where I am now. I don't think I'll ever get there.

Thanks for the comment on my blog. You nailed some of the specifics of what skills are required for a project manager. In my experience you could also add Den Mom, Psychologist and Coach.

I enjoy reading your blog.
