I agree with your comments.  A daily meeting is certainly too much.  My intent was to suggest a weekly meeting.  The agenda will be to review schedule and budget planned vs. actual over the past week and then to review any other issues affecting the project's progress.  Generally, every two weeks is too long.  A lot can happen in 2 weeks and it can be more difficult to quickly get the project on track.

The recurrence of your meetings might be different according to your situation. daily meetings might be a bit too much, but every 2-3 days are sometimes a better solution. Even a 2 weekly meeting might be an option.</description>
