Similar thoughts:

1)"Process tailoring" & "Not following the process just for the sake of following process" are very much part of any Project Management recommendations (including PMBOK).

2) While accepting the substance & wisdom of this article, it would have been nice if it were not portrayed as "theory (PMBOK) v/s practical management".

I would like to write something similar to Glen, too. Here are some clarifications

- PMBOK Guide is just a framework that describes project management processes. A project manager should tailor these processes into her project. Some processes may not be used. Some may be combined into one. For example, in many small projects, define activities and estimate activity durations are carried out simultaneously, while they are different processes in the PMBOK Guide.

- PMBOK Guide does not describe waterfall methodology. Actually, PMBOK Guide does not describe how PM processes interact with each other. The process groups that in the PMBOK Guide and the project phases are different things. There was an article recently on PMHut that mentioned this confusion.
