PMO Poem
By Azra Duric

It was fine business morning
In a boardroom
On the seventh floor,
A task on the table was dawning,
And the atmosphere
Was very gore.

All the management had to meet
And debate what to do;
How a huge problem to beat
And save the company too.

“Help us God almighty!”
The CEO announced the news,
“We have a troubled IT;
I’ll show you all the clues.

Our IT projects are troubled;
Their costs are almost doubled!

Their timelines slip for months.
It was not agreed in plans!

Our staff works day and night,
Still the end is not in sight.”

In the midst of heated discussion,
You could hear the CIO.
He pleaded with quite a passion
To bring in a PMO.
“Let’s give the PMO this task
And the results will be very pretty,
But the only thing that I ask:
Get me on the Steering Committee!”

“Let’s bring the PMO here!”
They all exclaimed in excitement.
The boardroom filled with cheer
As everyone felt enlightened.

How it ended
You want to know.
I must say I am not sure.
This happened only
Two days ago.
After a year I’ll tell you more.

Two years it will take,
It’s what I was told,
For the sake
Of results to unfold.

PMO for sure is a good deed,
But will they succeed? I don’t know.
Did I hear it’s me they need?
So sorry to say, it’s time to go.

Azra,

You made me smile and cry. So many PMO implementations begin like this. Let’s keep our fingers crossed (for good luck) that at least some PMOs will show measurable bottom line benefits to business.

Wish you well,
Alec

Dear Azra,

I can’t choose a term to leave a comment, as sometimes your poem seems to me TRUE LIES and sometimes as a FACTUAL DOCUMENT. Thanks & Regards anyway.
