I am going through this site in search of some basic queries related to the roles/responsibilities of a Project Manager and here I find my query linked to the point 1. mentioned.

IS a PM required to be technology-savvy to succeed a project that works on a specific technology,
or will a technology-independent project manager be able to deliver the project at the same rate of success?

I see in today's times that most project managers in Information Technology industry are required to have technology experience to manage a project that uses that technology.
If you don't have that technology experience, you are not considered for the role.

what are your observations/comments on this aspect?
Thanks
