The Project Management Office - PMO Functions
By Moises Ortiz
The Project Management Office (PMO) supports project managers by defining standards and providing best practices. The PMO is the source of documentation and guidance on the project management methodology that the organization has adopted.
You can summarize PMOs functions as follows:
- Project management methodology: PMO develops and implements a consistent and standardized methodology.
- Training: PMO conducts training programs on the standardized methodology.
- Project support: PMO provides guidance and advice about best practices.
- Project management software tools: PMO selects and maintains project management tools for use by Project Managers.
- Portfolio management: PMO provides the visibility needed to cancel, postpone, or scale back unnecessary or less strategic projects. By having oversight to all projects and personnel, a PMO can help on the Project Portfolio management.
